I think the extent to which I have any balance at all, any mental balance, is because of being a farm kid and being raised in those isolated rural areas.

Day 138 of 365

The Ivory Room

This is the second bedroom upstairs, and this is our second daughter's room - which she decorated to be a guest room.
The bed is another I found in an old farm house and painted. The bed spread was one that Mike's grandmother had. Though the lighting is not great in this picture (remember I'm not much of a photographer) you can see that the upstairs rooms are attic rooms i.e. slanted ceilings. The wood for the walls and ceiling came from the Lohn school building and is long leaf pine tongue and groove flooring which we planed.

My great grandmother's 14K gold thimble!

It is even monogrammed with "Kate"

I promise I'm getting back to house pictures - just haven't gotten around to taking pictures.

Day 120 of 365

The Red Press
This cabinet belonged to my great grandmother and was called the red press because she used it to store "pressed" linens. My mom remembers it being in her house. When I was a child, it had been moved to the shop and was used to store old tractor parts. My sister-in-law was going to throw it away and I rescued it, cleaned it up a bit, stabilized it a bit and now I use it to store electrical appliances. I believe it was made in the late 1890's.

Day 117 of 365

Quilts on a Rack

The Sunbonnet Sue was made by Mike's mom about 70 years ago. The spool quilt top I sewed together from vintage blocks I found at a flea market for the wonderful price of 50 cents each (42 total blocks). The framed pillow sham was made by my great great grandmother. The Grandmother's flower garden was a quilt fragment I found at a flea market. The needlepoint parlor chair is one of a pair that belonged to my son-in-law's grandmother (which they graciously allowed me to inherit!).

This was another "find" - we helped a friend move and she wanted us to haul this to the dump! Not a great piece of furniture but after a little paint, it worked great in this room!

Day 111 of 365

Green & Pink Room
The room to left of the downstairs bathroom

The bedframe/footboard I found in an old farmhouse and painted it. The quilts came from flea markets. The water color picture was done by my oldest daughter. This is her room when she is home. The walls in this room are made with planed lone leaf yellow pine tongue and groove flooring.
